De genezing van een fractuur vereist een complex proces van celproliferatie en -differentiatie. Ze kan in drie belangrijke fasen worden ingedeeld:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>De ontstekingsfase is gekenmerkt door het ontstaan van een hematoom en fysicochemische fenomenen die leiden tot de migratie van de herstelcellen. Deze cellen zullen zich differenti\u00ebren in gespecialiseerde cellen die nieuw bot- (cellen die osteoblasten worden genoemd) en kraakbeenweefsel (cellen die chondroblasten worden genoemd) aanmaken.<\/li>\n<li>De herstelfase is gekenmerkt door callusvorming. De callus is samengesteld uit chondroblasten en osteoblasten die zich in de fractuur vermenigvuldigen. De oorspronkelijke callus is tamelijk week en biedt enige stevigheid aan de botstukken. Na een tijdje verkalkt deze callus en wordt het bot harder.<\/li>\n<li>De remodelleringsfase is gekenmerkt door het herstel van de normale grootte, vorm en sterkte van het gebroken bot. Bijgevolg verhoogt de botproductie maar het genezingsweefsel overbrugt de fractuur niet. Het is niet de enige optie (een autotransplantaat, een allotransplantatie of chirurgische fixatie zijn andere opties) maar kan werken onder specifieke omstandigheden.<\/p>\n<p>Verrassend? Acad\u00e9mie Royale de Belgique, Classe des Sciences, Bruxelles, 336 pages, 1994<\/em><em>.<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Reeds in het begin van de 19<sup>de<\/sup> eeuw werden elektrische schokken toegepast bij de behandeling van pseudoartrose van het scheenbeen. De technieken zijn verbeterd en in 1861 bijvoorbeeld bestonden de stimulaties uit gelijkstromen die op de plaats van de fractuur werden toegediend door middel van naalden, maar hiervoor bestaat geen wetenschappelijke rechtvaardiging.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens de 18e en de 19e eeuw breidde de kennis over elektriciteit uit. Omdat dit het tijdperk was van de ontdekking van de eigenschappen van elektriciteit en EM-velden, waren de eerste therapeutische toepassingen van elektriciteit veeleer &#8220;magisch&#8221; dan wetenschappelijk.<\/p>\n<p>Hoe kwam men op het idee om elektriciteit te gebruiken en hoe werd het onderzoek wetenschappelijker? Dit kan in drie hoofdfasen worden samengevat:[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;1. Opmerking&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%233f3f3f&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]Een mechanisch belast bot (bijvoorbeeld tijdens het stappen) maakt botweefsel aan (osteogenese). Proefnemingen&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%233f3f3f&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]Parallel hebben experimenten op botten aangetoond dat de verdeling van elektrische ladingen aan beide zijden van een bot verschillen volgens de mechanische vervorming.\u00a0 Dit effect was eerst vergelijkbaar met een <strong>pi\u00ebzo-elektrisch effect,<\/strong> zoals bijvoorbeeld in droge omstandigheden waargenomen op mineralen zoals kwarts (zie afbeelding hieronder).[\/vc_column_text][image_with_animation image_url=&#8221;558&#8243; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; animation=&#8221;Fade In&#8221; border_radius=&#8221;none&#8221; box_shadow=&#8221;none&#8221; max_width=&#8221;100%&#8221; margin_bottom=&#8221;20&#8243;][vc_column_text]<em>In 1953 stelden wetenschappers elektrische potentiaalvariaties vast aan het oppervlak van een mechanisch vervormd bot. Deze variaties komen voor tijdens de dynamische fase van de vervorming en neutraliseren wanneer de vervorming is verkregen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In levende botten echter (vochtige omstandigheden), is het voornamelijk de migratie van ionen tijdens de mechanische vervorming die een <strong>stromingspotentiaal <\/strong>produceertdat verantwoordelijk is voor de elektrische potentiaalvariaties aan het oppervlak van botten.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;3.
