Meerdere studies hebben het verband tussen elektromagnetische velden en kinderleukemie onderzocht (Kabuto et al., 2006; Linet et al., 1997; Michaelis et al., 1997). Dit onderzoeksdomein vertoont echter belangrijke disrepanties: Sommige studies vonden een associatie van extreem laag frequente elektromagnetische velden (ELF-EMF) met kinderleukemie, andere studies vonden geen enkel verband tussen deze variabelen. Om deze reden is het belangrijk meta-analyses door te voeren om na te gaan of blootstelling aan elektromagnetische velden w\u00e8rkelijk het risico op kinderleukemie kan verhogen.<\/p>\n<p>Een meta-analyse is een statistische analyse die de resultaten van verschillende studies combineert. Dergelijke analyse maakt een synthese van alle resultaten\/antwoorden op een specifieke vraag. Alhoewel meta-analyses worden beschouwd als de meest betrouwbare vorm van wetenschappelijk bewijs (Borenstein et al. 2009) zijn de gebruikte procedures en statistieken dikwijls inaccuraat en twijfelachtig, dit doet afbreuk aan de besluiten getrokken uit dergelijke studies (Ioannidis et al., 2015; Ioannidis 2016). Het is daarom essentieel om meta-analyses volgens de juiste \u201cstap-voor-stap\u201d procedure uit te voeren, gebaseerd op een systematische review van de literatuur die rekening houdt met de \u201cPRISMA STATEMENT\u201d en de \u201cPRISMA checklist\u201d (Beaudart et al., 2016; Rabenda et al., 2017; zie ook PRISMA website in de Referenties).
